Position Details

Position: GIS Coordinator

๐Ÿ” Scope of Work

The GIS Coordinator will ensure high-quality GIS data management, project mapping, spatial analysis, and remote sensing support. The position involves collaboration with project teams, research units, implementing partners, and government stakeholders.


๐Ÿ“Œ Key Responsibilities

1. GIS & Participatory GIS (PGIS) Support

  • Conduct PGIS activities with communities
  • Digitize community maps and integrate spatial datasets
  • Prepare user-friendly maps & visualizations
  • Coordinate with community mapping events and local stakeholders

2. GIS Data Management & Mapping

  • Collect, validate, and manage spatial & non-spatial data
  • Perform digitization and spatial processing (QGIS/ArcGIS)
  • Develop heat maps, overlays, infographics, and thematic maps
  • Coordinate with field teams for accurate data collection

3. Spatial & Remote Sensing Analysis

  • Support hazard mapping, risk assessment, and accessibility analysis
  • Analyze satellite imagery (Landsat, Sentinel)
  • Prepare remote sensing visuals for project reports

4. Technical Support & Capacity Building

  • Provide GIS technical support to staff & local governments
  • Support digital data collection (Kobo, ODK, Survey123)
  • Conduct basic GIS training and map literacy sessions

5. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Prepare GIS-based visuals, dashboards, and presentations
  • Maintain metadata, archives, and documentation
  • Coordinate with the MEAL team to ensure data quality

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or related fields

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in GIS, remote sensing, or spatial data analysis
  • Knowledge of OSM tools (JOSM, OSM Editors, Citizen Science)
  • Experience using QGIS/ArcGIS Pro, GPS tools, and ArcGIS Online platforms
  • PGIS experience preferred
  • Power BI experience is a plus
  • Experience in government, NGO, humanitarian, or development sectors preferred

Skills

  • Strong mapping & visualization skills
  • Excellent communication & teamwork capability
  • Ability to travel regularly
  • Fluency in English & Nepali
  • Understanding of GEDSI and data protection principles
