About WHO Nepal
The **World Health Organization Nepal Country Office works closely with the Ministry of Health and Population to strengthen the health system, improve emergency preparedness, and support public health programs.
Through the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE), the organization provides technical support during public health emergencies, disease outbreaks, and disaster response efforts.
Key Responsibilities
The Field Medical Officer will support federal and provincial health authorities in strengthening health emergency management and disease surveillance systems.
1. International Health Regulations (IHR) Support
- Support implementation of IHR core capacities in Nepal
- Assist in monitoring epidemiological and laboratory surveillance systems
- Conduct risk assessments and preparedness planning
- Support outbreak investigation and response activities
- Strengthen rapid response teams (RRTs)
2. Health Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Conduct hazard and vulnerability assessments
- Support development of disaster preparedness plans and SOPs
- Assist Health Emergency Operations Centers (HEOC) in coordination
- Participate in simulation exercises and emergency drills
- Support response activities during public health emergencies
3. Coordination and Capacity Building
- Work with government agencies and stakeholders
- Support training in disease surveillance and outbreak investigation
- Assist in strengthening emergency medical deployment teams
- Supervise information management staff and ensure proper data management
Required Qualifications
Essential Qualification
- Medical degree recognized by Nepal Medical Council
- Valid Nepal Medical Council registration
Desirable Qualification
- Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Disaster Management, or Emergency Response
Required Experience
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
Desirable:
- Experience in field epidemiology, outbreak investigation, or disaster response
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
- Knowledge of disease surveillance and outbreak response
- Excellent report writing and communication skills in English
- Ability to work in a multicultural team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel within Nepal on short notice
Language Requirements
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Good knowledge of Nepali
Salary and Benefits
Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary of NPR 196,102 (Level VIII) under the Special Services Agreement (SSA) contract with the World Health Organization.
