Karkhana Samuha is a Nepal-based non-profit organization dedicated to innovative and inclusive education, digital transformation, education in emergencies, sustainability, and climate education. KS applies Design Thinking (DT) and Human-Centered Design (HCD) approaches to co-create solutions with partners and end-users. Through participatory methods, the organization builds communities of practice that foster local innovations with a global impact.


Role Purpose

The Human Resource Officer will manage HR operations at Karkhana Samuha, ensuring efficient recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compliance with Nepal labor laws, employee engagement, and workplace culture development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment (job posting, screening, interviews, offers).
  • Ensure transparent, inclusive, and fair hiring practices.
  • Conduct orientation and onboarding sessions.
  • Maintain updated job descriptions and staffing plans.

2. HR Policy & Compliance

  • Implement HR policies aligned with organizational culture and Nepal labor law.
  • Ensure awareness of code of conduct, safeguarding, and grievance mechanisms.
  • Serve as the safeguarding focal person for the organization.

3. Performance & Team Development

  • Manage staff performance appraisal and KPI setting.
  • Organize training, capacity building, and learning opportunities.
  • Collect and analyze HR data for staff retention and wellbeing.

4. Employee Engagement

  • Promote an inclusive and equitable workplace.
  • Address grievances and conflicts confidentially.
  • Coordinate team-building and wellness programs.

5. HR Administration

  • Maintain personnel files and HR databases.
  • Track attendance, leave, and contract renewals.
  • Assist in payroll processing and benefits administration.
  • Prepare HR reports for management and donors.

6. Workplace Culture & HR Planning

  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Assist in workforce planning and HR budgeting.
  • Organize internal awareness campaigns and training.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field (Masterโ€™s preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years HR experience, preferably in NGOs or social sector.
  • Knowledge of Nepal Labor Law and HR best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and HR information systems.

Desirable Skills

  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Familiarity with tools like Notion, Excel, and HR systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
