Job Opportunity: Research Assistant (Forestry, Botany, Environmental Science) – 2025 | ANSAB Nepal

Are you passionate about conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable trade? ANSAB (Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources), in collaboration with TRAFFIC International and other global partners, is implementing a UK Government-funded Darwin Initiative project titled “Scaling conservation of Himalayan plants and fungi through sustainable trade.”

This high-impact environmental project aims to promote sustainable management of Himalayan medicinal plants and fungi, improve local livelihoods, and encourage equitable trade and value addition in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan regions of Nepal.

To support this initiative, ANSAB is hiring Research Assistants for short-term field positions to help conduct a national-level resource inventory of high-value medicinal plants and fungi.


🌿 Key Responsibilities:

✅ Field Data Collection

  • Assist inventory team leaders in conducting field surveys
  • Support species data collection and GPS recording
  • Ensure proper care of field equipment, plant samples, and datasheets

✅ Reporting & Documentation

  • Assist with data entry
  • Help in preparing the final inventory report

🌄 Inventory Locations:

The research will take place in 27 Himalayan districts, organized into five regional clusters:

  • Cluster 1: Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura
  • Cluster 2: Humla, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Rukum West
  • Cluster 3: Rukum East, Rolpa, Myagdi, Mustang, Manang, Kaski, Lamjung, Gorkha
  • Cluster 4: Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Ramechhap
  • Cluster 5: Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar

Target Species Include:
Yarsagumba, Jatamansi, Guchi Chyau, Panchaaule, Satuwa, Setakchini, Sugandhawal, Kakoli, Kutki, Padamchal, and Attis.


🎓 Eligibility & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Botany, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Experience in ecological or botanical surveys is a plus
  • Ability to identify Himalayan medicinal plants is an advantage
  • Physically fit and willing to work in challenging mountain conditions
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Master’s students in relevant fields are encouraged to apply
