Objectives of the Position

The Immunization Preventable Disease (IPD) Programme of WHO Nepal supports the Government of Nepal in:

  • Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) surveillance and immunization.
  • Emergency response during earthquakes, COVID-19, and new vaccine rollouts.
  • Developing and implementing the Polio Transition Plan (2023โ€“2030).

The officer will provide technical assistance, advocacy, monitoring, evaluation, and capacity building to support Nepalโ€™s immunization program and polio transition activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Family Welfare Division (FWD) and MoHP on the Polio Transition Plan.
  • Develop implementation frameworks, monitoring tools, SOPs, and checklists.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders at federal, provincial, and local levels.
  • Conduct advocacy meetings with ministries for sustainable financing of VPD surveillance.
  • Organize national and provincial level review meetings and workshops.
  • Build capacity of medical doctors and surveillance focal persons.
  • Monitor budget allocation and utilization for immunization and surveillance programs.
  • Draft policy provisions for integrating VPD surveillance into Nepalโ€™s Immunization Act.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • MBBS degree recognized by Nepal Medical Council.
  • Masterโ€™s in Public Health or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years in immunization or VPD surveillance.
  • Experience working with WHO or MoHP preferred.
  • Background in National Immunization Strategies, Polio Transition Plans, or GAVI projects is desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of public health, immunization, epidemiology.
  • Excellent monitoring, evaluation, and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical software.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report writing skills in English and Nepali.
