Rural Oriented Youth Movement-Nepal (ROYM-Nepal)—a national-level non-profit NGO established in 2009—is seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Communication Officer. ROYM-Nepal works to build a socio-economically empowered society focusing on human rights, WASH, gender equality, youth empowerment, climate change, education, health, and sustainable development.
For over a decade, ROYM-Nepal has been implementing impactful community-based programs across Nepal, supporting marginalized communities through skill transformation, socio-economic empowerment, women’s health, WASH initiatives, and youth engagement.
Position Details
Position: Communication Officer
Location: Kathmandu (with frequent travel to program districts)

Type: Regular position with annual performance review
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Program Coordinator, the Communication Officer will lead all communication and knowledge management activities across ROYM-Nepal projects. This includes content development, social media management, reporting, success stories, branding, media relations, and designing communication materials.
The role requires close coordination with field teams, partners, and internal departments to strengthen the organization’s digital presence and public image.
Educational Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in communication, media, or development sector.
- Strong knowledge of Nepal’s local and regional human rights context.
- Excellent command of English and Nepali languages.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the organization’s overall communication and knowledge management system.
- Develop communication strategies, rules, protocols, and yearly work plans.
- Implement effective communication channels based on project needs.
- Write, edit, and distribute publications, reports, press releases, speeches, newsletters, and website content.
- Serve as the primary media contact—manage inquiries, interviews, and relationships with media houses.
- Strengthen the NGO’s branding and public image through strategic communication.
- Manage and grow ROYM-Nepal’s social media platforms.
- Produce and update website content and maintain communication dashboards.
- Maintain media coverage records and generate digital analytics reports.
- Lead video production, editing, and team capacity building for visual documentation.
- Develop IEC materials, infographics, case studies, and success stories from the field.
- Perform any other communication-related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Strong writing and editing skills (written, audio, visual content).
- Ability to design creative communication plans and campaigns.
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Advanced digital proficiency—social media management, analytics, and design tools.
- Strong time management for handling multiple projects.
- Analytical mindset for interpreting communication and campaign data.
