UWS Nepal is seeking a skilled and committed Construction Manager to lead the construction of high-quality community school buildings in remote areas of Nepal. As Construction Manager, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the effective planning, coordination, and delivery of school infrastructure projects in compliance with quality, safety, and budgetary standards. You will supervise construction sites, coordinate with local stakeholders, and ensure that all works are delivered to the highest standards, helping communities access safe and sustainable education facilities.

Key Objectives

  • Lead and supervise the construction of UWS community school buildings across rural Nepal.
  • Ensure compliance with Nepal National Building Codes and relevant local construction regulations.
  • Monitor the progress of construction projects, ensuring they stay within budget and timeline.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards across all project sites.
  • Facilitate coordination and communication between communities, government officials, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical oversight to ensure the highest quality of work.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility assessments and site visits for proposed school construction locations.
  • Work with architects and engineers to review, validate, and approve construction designs.
  • Develop construction schedules, material requirements, and cost estimates.
  • Supervise site work to ensure alignment with plans and quality benchmarks.
  • Track progress and proactively address potential delays or issues.
  • Establish and support Construction Coordination Committees in each community to ensure local engagement and ownership.
  • Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and utility providers to secure permissions and resources.
  • Guide and assist construction teams with technical issues and promote sound construction practices.
  • Oversee resource allocation and manage construction budgets responsibly.
  • Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to review progress and resolve concerns.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and conduct on-site safety inspections.
  • Maintain meticulous records, including site logs, measurements, design changes, and as-built documentation as per UWS Construction Manual.
  • Submit weekly progress reports detailing status updates, budget tracking, and deviations from plans.
  • Ensure the timely and successful completion of construction projects.
  • Facilitate smooth handover of completed school infrastructure to appropriate local authorities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution OR a CTEVT certificate in civil construction or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising construction projects.
  • Hands-on experience with community-level construction work.
  • Preference given to candidates from the project implementation areas.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Google Workspace).
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design tools such as AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, or similar drafting software.

Other Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in remote locations of Nepal.
  • Valid two-wheeler driving license.
  • Prior experience working with INGOs or NGOs is an advantage.
