28 Bhadra, Kathmandu – The Nepal Army has started releasing former ministers detained during the Genji Movement, including former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other senior political leaders.

During the Genji Andolan, the Nepal Army had taken control of then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, all cabinet ministers, and major party heads, citing security reasons. They were kept in different military battalions, with several ministers housed at the Bhairavnath Battalion.

According to sources, the detained ministers were not allowed to use mobile phones while under military control. However, after Sushila Karki took oath as Prime Minister of Nepal, the Army allowed limited communication rights, including mobile phone access.

Today, the Army has officially begun releasing the ministers from Bhairavnath Gan, and some have already returned home. One of the released ministers confirmed that they were finally allowed to leave the barracks.

This development marks a turning point in Nepal’s political situation, raising new discussions around democracy, civil rights, and the role of the Nepal Army in times of political unrest.
