About the Project
The Trail-based Tourism Development Project (TTDP) is a flagship initiative by the Governments of Switzerland and Nepal, aimed at increasing income and preserving local culture through innovative and sustainable tourism models. The project covers the Mundum, Chiyabari, Phalgunanda, and Laligurans trail routes, across 29 municipalities of Koshi Province.
On behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Helvetas Nepal provides technical support and invites applications from qualified Nepali citizens for the position of:
Position: Technical Officer – Civil Engineering (Few Positions)
Job Purpose:
To support the local-level implementation, verification, and design of infrastructure activities under the guidance of the Trail Coordinator.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation & Monitoring
- Conduct field-level design verification, surveys, and project implementation.
- Collect socio-economic data in coordination with the Social Safeguard Officer.
- Prepare cost estimates and oversee the construction work.
- Facilitate public discussions and ensure inclusive participation of disadvantaged communities.
- Support development of operations and maintenance (O&M) plans with TUCCs.
2. Quality Assurance & Technical Support
- Design and supervise construction and rehabilitation works (slope stabilization, erosion control).
- Ensure participatory approaches during design and planning.
- Monitor quality control and adherence to specifications.
3. Capacity Building & Community Engagement
- Coach local TUCC members on infrastructure development and O&M plans.
- Facilitate training and regular supervision.
- Promote inclusive practices, gender equality, and social equity.
4. Policy Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Helvetas’ policies (Gender, Social Inclusion, Conflict Sensitivity, etc.).
- Adhere to ethical standards, anti-corruption measures, and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Education:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering (CTEVT or recognized institution) OR
- TSLC in Civil Engineering with minimum 3 years of experience as Assistant Sub-Engineer.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient in GPS, GIS, and AutoCAD tools.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills in English.
- Experience in participatory planning, design, and capacity-building.
- Familiar with local government systems and infrastructure projects.
- Commitment to gender equality, social inclusion, and poverty reduction.
